AMATEUR FLOWERING ARRANGING CONTEST
Kentland's Flowers & Bows

Saturday, August 14th, 10AM, Heritage - Garden Room

RULES:
1. Limited to the first 25 registrants
2. To enter, you must call into the Fair Office at 301-926-3100
3. Flowers & supplies provides
4. Bring your own equipment

All arrangements will be used in the Garden Room of the Heritage for luncheons.

VEGGIE 500 RACES
Sponsored by Butler's Orchard
Saturday, August 14th, 2P-4P, Community Square

BASIS OF COMPETITION:
Create and race a car made out of vegetables. Car base provided. Vegetable provided or you may bring your own special veggie.

RULES:
1. One entry per individual exhibitor. Groups (such as a family) are also welcome to make a car.
2. Fair will supply car base. Vegetables provided or you may bring your own, such as an ear of corn, potato, cucumber, zucchini or squash.
3. All entries must be assembled on the spot.
4. Once entries are assembled, race heats will commence. The winners of each heat compete against each other for an overall race winner.
5. Participants under the age of eight must have an adult assistant.
6. All participants to receive participation ribbons.

SKID STEER LOADER OPERATOR'S CONTEST
Sponsored by The Bartley Corporation
Tuesday, August 17th, 6PM, Grandstand

RULES & REGULATIONS:
1. The contest will begin at 6:30PM on Tuesday, in the Grandstand.
2. Entries will be limited to accommodate the time. Entries will be accepted on first come, first serve basis.
3. Contestants should be in the Horse Arena at 5:45PM.
4. There is no entry fee.
5. A Breath-A-Lizer test will be given to each contestant.
6. The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair will provide Skid Steer Loaders.
7. Operators MUST be at least sixteen (16) years of age as of August 9 and MUST have experience with skid steer loaders. If you are under 18, you must have a parent or guardian sign below.
8. ALL skid steers loaders MUST be operated in low gear.
9. Judging will be based on best qualifying time with the least amount of penalty points.
10. A trophy will be awarded to the first place winner.

INVITATIONAL AMATEUR CHEESE CARVING CONTEST
Tuesday, August 17th, 10:00AM, near the Cheese Booth

Free art sculpturing.  With a 2 lb. block of cheese you have 30 minutes to carve your masterpiece, come with your ideas.  Awards are given out for the most imaginative, finest art, most fair related, etc. - everyone gets a ribbon. 

RULES:
1. Number of participants is limited to 15
2. Must be an amateur carver
3. Fair will provide a block of cheese for each participant and a carving knife.
4. Entries will be displayed in the Butter House for the remainder of the Fair.
5. If you would like to participate, call the Fair Office at 301-926-3100.

TOILET DECORATING CONTEST
Friday, August 13th, near Building #3

RULES:
1. All toilets must be cleaned and sanitized.
2. Entries may be pre-registered, on the following form, and mailed along with your entry fee of $5.00 to:

Gaithersburg, MD 20877

3. All entries must be able to withstand the elements, as they will be displayed outside.
4. Decorations are not to exceed the overall size of 4’wX4’dX6’h.
5. Judging will be based on creativity and originality.
6. All entries must be brought to the entry desk outside of Building 3 on Thursday, August 12, 2010 from 7PM-8PM or Friday.
7. All entries must be picked up on Sunday, August 22 from 12PM-2PM, any entry not picked up by this time, becomes the property of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair.
8. All prize money will be mailed to the exhibitor following the completion of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair.
9. Entries are open to all residents of Montgomery County, and Lifetime members.
10. The committee chairman reserves the right to refuse any objectionable exhibit.

WATERMELON SEED SPITTING CONTEST

Saturday, August 21st, 6PM, Horse Arena

RULES:
1. Number of participants is limited to 10.
2. Fair will supply a slice of watermelon.
3. Participants will have 20 minutes to use all the seeds in
    their slice to spit.
4. Winner will be decided by distance and accuracy
5. Pre-register by calling the Fair Office at 301-926-3100.

COLORING CONTEST
August 13th - 21st

RULES:
1. Use your imagination and color the pictures.
2. Fill in the form above.
3. Take your finished page to the Fair Office at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds during the annual Montgomery County Agricultural Fair- August 13-21.
4. Entries will not be accepted after Saturday, August 21st.5.A winner will be selected in each of the following age categories and will receive a $25 cash prize.

HERMIT CRAB RACING CONTEST
Wednesday, August 18th, 3:30PM, Racing Park

Bring your own crab, or rent a crab the day of the race for $1. $1 crab fee is donated to Second Chance Wildlife.  No pre-registration needed, just be at Racing Park at 3:00pm on Wednesday  and be ready to race your crab.  If you have any questions please contact Ruth at Animal Exchange 301-424-7387.

YOU BE THE JUDGE - BABY BLANKETS FOR TH PREEMIES
 

In celebration of the 62nd fair, the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair invites all Montgomery County Residents to enter a special contest.

RULES TO ENTER THE CONTEST:
1. Baby blankets must be made by the exhibitor.
2. Entry size is a 12 to 14 inch square.
3.Entries may be crocheted, knitted or sewn.  If crocheting or knitting, do not use a pattern with large holes.  If sewing, use cotton fabric on the top and a soft flannel for the backing.  Do not use any batting between the fabric layers.
4. Please remember that blankets will be used for preemies.  Materials chosen should be very soft.
5. Do not use anything on the blanket that can become a choking hazard for the baby.
6. All entries become the property of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair and will be donated to preemie programs at local hospitals.

ENTRY TIMES:
Bring your items to the Home Arts Building (top of building 6) during their normal fair registration hours.
Thursday August 12, 2010 from 4PM – 8PM or
Friday August 13, 2010 from 2PM – 8PM

VOTING AND JUDGING:
1. General Public Voting will be held from Sunday August 15 until Wednesday August 18 from 10AM – 9PM.
2. Winners will be notified by phone on Friday August 20. A special awards presentation will be held in the Home Arts Building on Saturday August 21 at 7PM
3. A SPECIAL AWARD IS DONATED BY A FRIEND OF THE FAIR TO THE EXHIBITOR WHO DONATES THE MOST BLANKETS TO THIS CONTEST.

So you think you can DANCE?

Be a part of Barnyard Boogie at the fair and join our "So you think you can DANCE" competition.  Singles, doubles and groups are welcome. (Group sizes are limited to six(6) people.) There will be 20 contestants dancing each evening on Friday, August 13 and Saturday, August 14 at 6:30pm (10 dancers will be selected each evening to go onto the semi-finals.) Semi-finals will be Friday, August 20 at 7pm (10 dancers will be selected to go onto the finals.) Finalists will dance their last dance on Saturday August 21 at 7pm and find out who this year's winner will be. Click here to sign up.
